Nowadays kitchen sinks are made from materials such as of porcelain, stainless steel or copper. The copper sink that most people desire for their kitchens, dates back to ancient times and this art form has passed down through several generations along with various varieties of artistic copper work and contemporary designs. Copper sinks are usually done by talented artisans with their exquisite craftsmanship. Hand made copper sinks have unique decorative art work which the commercially produced one lacks. Many people prefer copper sinks over the other type of sinks for its amazing beauty due to its sheen and iridescence after aging.
The next vessel sink is recently being incorporated into newer models of houses and to remodeled old homes. These sinks are known as pedestal sinks, which includes a pedestal to support the basin and at the same time, concealing the pipes used for its drainage and water supply. Like the wall-mounted vessel sink, the pedestal sink is practically used to save space. The minimal size of the pedestal sink allows simple installation, and is mostly suitable for installing a sink on wall parts that are near the corners. The pedestal sink is also ideal for small spaces such as powder rooms. These sinks are often made of vitreous china, fire-clay, porcelain or ceramic.
The first type of sink is the vanity sink. This is a sink that is installed into a cabinet of some kind. It can be a stand-alone cabinet or a series of cabinets that cover an entire wall. The sink is usually installed in one of two ways. The first is when the sink is molded to the counter. In this case the sink is indistinguishable from the rest of the counter. The second type of installation is a self rimming installation. In this case the sink is lowered into a hole cut in the counter that is slightly small than the rim of the sink. The sink sits on the counter just outside of all four sides of the hole. This option is good for master bathrooms or larger second bathrooms in your home where you need a lot of storage.
