Just deciding the design and type of the sink that you need would not do the trick. You need to be aware of the place where you want to place the sink and based on that you will have to select the sink. You can select a self rimming sink or an under-mount sink depending on the location. A self rimming sink is easy to install but cleaning the area under the rim would be tough. Installing an under-mount sink is tougher, but you will not have any cleaning hassles with it.
A vanity sink is one that is installed into cabinetry. The most common types of installation for a vanity sink are drop in and under mount. A drop in vanity sink is one that fits into a hole cut into the counter top. The hole is slightly smaller than the rim around the top of the sink so that it sits comfortably on the counter top. This type of installation is best if the counter tops you are using do not have finished edges. The sink will hide the cut edges of the counter. The second type of installation can be utilized if you have marble or granite counter tops that have finished edges. The sink is mounted under the counters so you will see the sides of the counter where the hole has been cut. These sinks are most appropriate for larger bathroom where you will need storage. Most of the time there just isn’t room for a cabinet in a small powder room.
Marble sinks cleaning is little more difficult as it is more porous and absorbency is more .To prevent marble sinks from absorbing fluids sealing is required. For regular cleaning use soft cleaning liquid that contains mild bleach or detergent. Acidic solutions can cause etching of the marble sinks. So care should be taken to prevent marble sinks coming in contact with orange juice, soft drinks and other acidic materials. Never use acidic cleaners on your marble sink acid will eat up the marble. Marble sinks should be rinsed and dried after each use to prevent water spots. If, your marble sink has the problem of etching and water spots it is better to get it re -polished and re-finished by an expert professional.
Mounting choices for different kinds of kitchen sinks
Another way to secure the sink is to use epoxy. A bead of epoxy is placed around the under side of the sink’s lip. You can also place a bead of epoxy around the edge of the sink hole. Drop the sink in the hole and make sure you have a flush seam all the way around. If part of the sink is not flush, use the brackets under the counter to pull it down and secure it. If you do have a flush seam, it means you have a very smooth and level counter surface. If this is the case, you can use just epoxy to mount the sink and may not need any screws and brackets underneath. In either case, be sure to allow the epoxy to dry for the amount of time shown on the packaging. Do not touch the sink at all during this period.
