There are many different versions of home school curriculums that are on the market today. There are some that are Christian home school curriculums that weave Christian beliefs and doctrines in and out of each learning experience. There are also some curriculums that can be found in computer form so that the child can do the lessons on the computer. Other versions allow the child to be on the computer and the courses are taught online. Some of these home schooling curriculums are accredited, meaning that they have been thoroughly examined by the educational system and have been found to provide a comprehensive program for teaching the students who use them. These are usually the most expensive home school curriculums to buy. There are others that are not accredited but are still good systems to use, and still others that are free resources and are great to supplement with in any curriculum.

Before deciding to home school, parents should be sure that they are aware of the legal requirements in that particular state in regard to home schooling. There are often certain organizations that the parents will need to be a part of in order to be allowed to home school, they may have to use the curriculum provided by the state, and they may have to have their children take the state exams at the end of each year to prove they are learning what they need to learn to go on to the next grade level.
Besides the legal requirements, parents will need to set a budget for the home school curriculum. If there are multiple children, the cost can be quite high since there is the cost of materials and one curriculum might not be the best option for all of the children as their learning styles are different from each other. Many times, however, parents can modify the activities that are used with a particular curriculum so that it can fit each child’s learning style. There are also some curriculums that have the different learning styles built into it so that the parents automatically have learning style options to choose from. Some parents choose to use the free resources as their home schooling curriculum. This can be a viable option for those who are on a tight budget, but it often takes more research and leg work than the premade curriculums. The free options usually are not comprehensive, but will hit one aspect of a subject for a particular grade level fairly well.
