Parents decide to home school their children for a variety of reasons including the ability to give them the foundation they need as Christians to face the world with that particular world view. Since that is the case, parents will look for a Christian home school program that will provide the basis to follow as parent teachers to the children. There are many Christian home school options in terms of curriculum, some of which are accredited and others are not but are still solid curriculums to use. Many of these Christian home school core classes are the typical math, science, history and English courses but there is also a fifth course, Bible. In each of the courses, the Christian home and Bible school curriculum contains a Christian world view so that the perspective the child obtains from studying the course is one that lines up with what the Bible says about it.
What to Expect
Creating a Christian home schooling experience is very similar to other home schooling experiences except that there are some additions to the curriculum. Parents need to weigh the cost of doing home schooling with their children since there is the cost of text books and other materials necessary to teach the children the different subjects. They might also have to pay for the child to attend other classes that are taught be experts, such as art classes, music or physical education. It may also be possible for the child to participate in certain athletic teams or clubs at the local public schools, depending on the rules in that particular district.
A Christian home school requires that the parents be dedicated to being consistent and well prepared with the lessons that are taught to the children. The parents will need to make sure that the legal paperwork is filled out with the school district to home school and they need to meet that state’s requirements for their children. They will also often have to keep detailed records of lesson plans, test scores, and more to prove that they are doing an adequate job with their children. Parents who are providing a Christian home school may also be required to have the children participate in the state’s standardized testing each year to prove that they are learning the necessary skills for promotion to the next grade level. Luckily, there are many Christian home school materials and support groups to help parents to be able to provide a great education to their children.
